Frederick Bagares, DO
Dr. Fred Bagares joined Spine & Sports Physiatrists in July 2011. Born and raised in Virginia, Dr. Bagares earned his medical degree from the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine in Glendale, Arizona. He completed his internship at Frankford Hospital in Philadelphia and continued his Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PM&R) residency training at Northwestern University / Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago. He is eligible to sit for the PM&R board examination in August 2011.
Dr. Bagares has always had an interest in the musculoskeletal system. He worked as a physical therapy aide while attending George Mason University before entering medical school. While in Arizona, he developed his understanding of the intimate relationship between “structure” and “function” and his interest in musculoskeletal and sports medicine. To help cultivate his interests, he volunteered on the medical team for numerous marathons and performed pre-participation physicals for high school students and USA Boxing. He also helped establish a sports medicine and PM&R club at his medical school so that others could also develop their interests. He is currently the team physician for Gordon Technical High School in Chicago.
While in residency, Dr. Bagares served on several medical committees within his hospital and at the national level. He served as the president of the Resident Physician Council of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and still serves on the Academy’s Public and Professional Awareness Committee. His other professional interests include graduate medical education and medical student mentorship.
Dr. Bagares enjoys spending time with his wife and new baby girl in beautiful downtown Chicago. His hobbies include running, weight lifting, and combat sports, which support his other hobby of trying new restaurants.
